This week’s blog is focusing on one of our fantastic speakers, Ash Soni. Many Pharmacy students recognise Ash as the President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) but did you also know that he was nominated and awarded an OBE, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his outstanding services in pharmacy? This title is awarded only to those who make distinguished or notable contributions in their own specific areas of activity. Withonly 2,600 OBE’s awarded by the queen every year this is undoubtedly an amazing achievement.
Ash himself said, “It’s a great honour to be recognised in this way. It shows how the profession itself continues to rise and be recognised. This is a tribute to all those pharmacists out there who deliver incredible patient care and I am privileged to be able to tell their stories at the highest levels and to show the value and expertise that this great profession provides.”
His colourful Pharmacy career began academically after completion of his first degree at Portsmouth University in 1984 and subsequent registration as a Pharmacist. His career since then has been diverse but primarily community based and now includes working as part of group looking at implementation of independent prescribing by pharmacists. This coincides with his role as an independent NHS consultant, which is something you’ll certainly want to find more about at the conference. Recently Ash has been delivering presentations with the RPS on how to ‘kick start your career’ a further discussion point you might want to ask him about. Take a look at Ash’s LinkedIn page for his full career history at https://uk.linkedin.com/in/ash-soni-obe-10713a12 or have a look his personal twitters account available at @ashsoni0607.
As you can see Ash is an interesting and successful Pharmacist so start thinking of some questions to ask, why not send these to us now by our Twitter page using the hash tag #Altpharm16 and we will ensure these are addressed on the day.
We would advise you to get reading and start thinking of some questions you might like answering because Ash would love to speak with you at the APC conference on 23rd January 2016!
